¹ There was a man in the land of Uz, his name was Job. And this man was perfect and upright, and fearing God, and turning away from evil. ² And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. ³ And his possessions were seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a very great household, so that this man was greater than all the sons of the east. ⁴ And his sons feasted in the house of each one on his day. And they sent and called their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. ⁵ And it happened, when the day of feasting had gone around, Job would send and sanctify them. And he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt sacrifices according to all their number. For Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. This Job always did. ⁶ And a day came when the sons of God came to present themselves before Jehovah. And Satan also came among them. ⁷ And Jehovah said to Satan, From where have you come? And Satan answered Jehovah and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. ⁸ And Jehovah said to Satan, Have you set your heart on My servant Job because there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil? ⁹ And Satan answered Jehovah and said, Does Job fear God for nothing? ¹⁰ Have You not made a hedge for him, and for his house, and for all that is his all around? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock have increased in the land. ¹¹ But put out Your hand now, and touch against all that is his, and see if he will not then curse You to Your face. ¹² And Jehovah said to Satan, Behold, all that is his is in your hand! Only, do not lay your hand on him. And Satan went out from the face of Jehovah. ¹³ And a day came when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their brother's house, the first-born. ¹⁴ And a messenger came to Job and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses were feeding beside them. ¹⁵ And the Sabeans fell on, and took them away. And they killed the young men with the edge of the sword; and I, I alone have escaped to tell you. ¹⁶ While this one was still speaking, this other also came and said, The fire of God has fallen from the heavens and has burned up the sheep and the young men. And it has destroyed them; and I, I alone have escaped to tell you. ¹⁷ While this one was still speaking, this other also came and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands and swooped down on the camels. And they have taken them away. And they have killed the young men with the edge of the sword; and I, I alone have escaped to tell you. ¹⁸ While this one was still speaking, this other came and said, Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the first-born, ¹⁹ And, behold! A great wind came from the wilderness and touched the four corners of the house. And it fell on the young men and they died; and I, I alone have escaped to tell you. ²⁰ And Job rose up and tore his robe, and shaved his head. And he fell down on the ground and worshiped. ²¹ And he said, I came naked out of my mother's womb, and naked I shall return there. Jehovah gave, and Jehovah has taken away. Blessed be the name of Jehovah. ²² In all this Job did not sin, nor charge wrong to God.

A Psalm of David Give ear to my words, O Jehovah; consider my meditation. ² Attend to the voice of my cry, my King and my God; for I will pray to You. ³ You will hear my voice in the morning, O Jehovah, I will set myself for You in the morning, and I will look up. ⁴ For You are not a God enjoying wickedness; nor shall evil live with You. ⁵ The boasters shall not set themselves before Your eyes. You hate all workers of iniquity. ⁶ You shall destroy those speaking lies; Jehovah will despise the man of blood and deceit. ⁷ But I, in the plenty of Your grace, I will come into Your house. I will worship in Your fear toward Your holy temple, O Jehovah. ⁸ Lead me in Your righteousness, because of my enemies; make straight Your way before me. ⁹ For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is engulfing ruin; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue. ¹⁰ O God, hold them guilty; let them fall from their own counsels. Drive them away in the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against You. ¹¹ But let all who put their trust in You rejoice; let them shout for joy forever, because You cover them. And let those who love Your name be joyful in You. ¹² For You, O Jehovah, will bless the righteous; You will surround him with favor, as with a shield.

⁷ But I, in the plenty of Your grace, I will come into Your house. I will worship in Your fear toward Your holy temple, O Jehovah.

¹ To the chief musician, A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your loving-kindness, according to the multitude of Your tender mercies; blot out my transgressions. ² Wash me completely from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. ³ For I know my transgressions; and my sin is ever before me. ⁴ Against You, You only, I have sinned, and done evil in Your eyes; that You might be justified in Your speaking and be clear when You judge. ⁵ Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. ⁶ Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden parts You teach me wisdom. ⁷ Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. ⁸ Cause me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones You have crushed may rejoice. ⁹ Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. ¹⁰ Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a steadfast spirit within me. ¹¹ Do not cast me out from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. ¹² Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. ¹³ Then I will teach transgressors Your ways; and sinners will turn back to You. ¹⁴ Deliver me from the guilt of shedding blood, O God, O God of my salvation; my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. ¹⁵ O Lord, open my lips and my mouth shall declare Your praise. ¹⁶ For you do not desire sacrifice, or I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. ¹⁷ The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise. ¹⁸ Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; build the walls of Jerusalem. ¹⁹ Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole offering; then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.

³⁰ You send out Your Spirit, and they are created; and You renew the face of the earth.

²⁹ And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is : "Hear, Israel. The Lord our God is one Lord,

⁷⁹ to appear to those sitting in darkness and in shadow of death, to direct our feet into the way of peace. Isa. 9:2

³⁵ Let your loins be girded about, and the lamps burning,

¹ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth; ² and the earth being without form and empty, and darkness on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God moving gently on the face of the waters, ³ then God said, Let light be! And there was light. ⁴ And God saw the light, that it was good, and God separated between the light and darkness. ⁵ And God called the light, Day. And He called the darkness, Night. And it was so. ¹⁶ And God made the two great luminaries: the great luminary to rule the day, and the small luminary and the stars to rule the night. ¹⁷ And God set them in the expanse of the heavens, to give light on the earth, ¹⁸ and to rule over the day and over the night; and to divide between the light and the darkness. And God saw that it was good. ¹⁹ And there was evening, and there was morning the fourth day. ²⁰ And God said, Let the waters swarm with swarmers having a soul of life; and let the birds fly over the earth, on the face of the expanse of the heavens. ²¹ And God created the great sea animals, and all that creeps, having a living soul, which swarmed the waters, according to its kind; and every bird with wing according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. ²² And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas; and let the birds multiply in the earth. ²³ And there was evening, and there was morning the fifth day. ²⁴ And God said, Let the earth bring forth the soul of life according to its kind: cattle, and creepers, and its beasts of the earth, according to its kind. And it was so. ²⁵ And God made the beasts of the earth according to its kind, and cattle according to its kind, and all creepers of the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. ²⁶ And God said, let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creepers creeping on the earth. ²⁷ And God created the man in His own image; in the image of God He created him. He created them male and female. ²⁸ And God blessed them; and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over the fish of the sea, and over birds of the heavens, and over all beasts creeping on the earth. ²⁹ And God said, Behold, I have given you every plant seeding seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree in which is the fruit of a tree seeding seed; it shall be food for you. ³⁰ And to every beast of the earth, and to all birds of the heavens, and to every creeper on the earth which has in it a living soul, every green plant is for food. And it was so. ³¹ And God saw everything that He had made and behold, it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning the sixth day.

⁵ You shall not fear the terror of night, of the arrow that flies by day; ⁶ of the plague that walks in darkness, of the destruction laying waste at noonday. ⁷ A thousand shall fall by your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; it shall not come near you.

¹² Have you commanded the morning from your days, and caused the dawn to know its place,

¹⁴ Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing before You, O Jehovah, my Rock and my Redeemer.

⁸ Wake up my glory! Wake up, harp and lyre! I will stir the morning dawn with praise.

¹⁷ I love those who love me, and those who seek me early find me.

¹⁰⁵ Nun. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

¹ A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, You are my God; I earnestly seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You, as in a dry and weary land without water. ² Therefore I have seen you in the holy place, seeing Your power and Your glory. ³ For Your loving-kindness is better than life; my lips give praise to You. ⁴ So I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name. ⁵ My soul shall be satisfied, as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips, ⁶ when I remember You upon my bed. I will meditate on You in the night watches. ⁷ For You have been a help to me, and I will rejoice under the shadow of Your wings. ⁸ My soul is cleaved after You; Your right hand upholds me. ⁹ And those who seek to destroy my life shall go into the depths of the earth. ¹⁰ They shall pour him out by the sword; they shall be a serving for jackals. ¹¹ But the king shall rejoice in God; everyone who swears by Him shall glory, because the mouth of the one speaking a lie will be stopped.

³⁵ And rising up quite early in the night, He went out and went away into a deserted place. And He was praying there.

¹⁴ O satisfy us in the morning with Your mercy, and we will be glad and rejoice all our days.

³ You will hear my voice in the morning, O Jehovah, I will set myself for You in the morning, and I will look up.
